Blake’s POV – WEREWOLF BOUND
Circle around right. Blake directed.
Got it. Adam responded eagerly.
The two wolves parted, rounding on the large buck.
Suddenly a loud scream sounded in the distance, Blake turned to see Adam stare at him a long moment. They both turned away from the unsuspecting animal and ran towards the sound of the scream.
Lifting his nose in the air, Blake scented two humans crashing through the underbrush. Breathing heavily and reeking of alcohol, they chased after their prey. Sniffing again, the thing the men chased gave off an unfamiliar smell. Whatever it was, the scream had sounded feminine and her heart beat franticly.
Just like with the buck, circle right, I’ll go left. Blake instructed.
With a slight node, Adam took off to the right.
Her skin was pale and her bright pink eyes stared out in wild terror. Blake saw her eyes make contact with Adam’s wolf just as a plea for help brushed their minds.
Blake and Adam moved forward in silence, stalking the hunters from opposite directions while one of them poked at the pale looking girl on the ground with the barrel of his rifle. Immediately, the fur on the back of Blake’s neck stood on end and with his teeth bared in a silent growl, he crouched, ready to move in.
Adam was already in motion, he jumped, snarling and snapping at the closest man, the one holding the rifle.
STOP! His mental command did not connect because Adam had blocked communication in his panic to help the girl. It all happened so fast and Blake was too far away to stop him.
Grabbing hold of the man’s arm, Adam gave a vicious shake of his head causing the man to lose his grip on the gun. He threw the man away from the female with a snarl.
Pushing himself faster, Blake charges the man with the knife. But he was too late.
The blade plunged deep into Adam’s chest and his wolf could not hold onto its form. He shifted back to human, his hand clutching the man’s hand wrapped around the hunting knife.
Blake’s heart sank in his chest and all he was red for a moment and then he reacted. With a menacing growl, he lunged, his teeth snapped closed on the stunned man’s arm.
When the wolf’s sharp canines bit deep into his arm, the hunter screamed and released the knife.
Adam fell back to the ground, gasping for breath, his hand now wrapped around the knife sticking out of his chest. His eyes wide with shock, he gasped for breath.
Blake’s vision blurred and he fought for control. His wolf fought back wanting to give in to the blood lust to exact revenge on the two men. So, not only was he fighting the internal battle, he fought to maintain control of the hunter who was punching and kicking him everywhere at once. Blake gave in for the briefest of moments, allowing the power of his wolf to savagely yank the man off balance, and then released his hold on the hunters arm. The wolf lunged for his throat and the hunter fell to the ground, dead in an instant.
Blake pushed at the haze of the bloodlust, trying to get it back under control. In his mind he hated the fact that he had killed a human but he had no choice. He had to kill the hunter because he had seen Adam change. Cutting his eyes over at the man staring at him in horror, there could be no witnesses. The wolf’s head dropped, his ears pinned back and his teeth bare in a deep guttural growl.
The man opened his mouth to scream, backpedaling on the ground, no sound escaped when the wolf lunged.
Blake landed on his chest, knocking the breath from the man and his teeth sank into the flesh of the man’s throat. The rich coppery taste filled his mouth and he had to fight once again to control the blood lust. With sheer willpower, he forced his wolf to give up the fight and backed away, dropping them man into a heap onto the ground. He turned and trotted over to Adam’s side.
Anger filled his mind at the same time agony at seeing him looking so pale filled his gut. Looking out into the woods, he would normally seek solitude to shift, but he remained when his eyes met Adam’s anguished expression. Lowering himself to the ground, Blake began to force his wolf to release its hold and began the painful shift back to his human form.
The pain was excruciating. The shift usually took a while, but with him forcing it to go faster it was nearly insufferable, but he pushed on. With his head hung low, he couldn’t keep from growling and moaning through the tearing of his skin, the popping and cracking of his bones as they realigned and moved into place, the searing burning of his internal organs shifting. Once the change was complete, Blake forced himself to his feet. Goddammit, why don’t you ever listen to me? Blake kept the thought to himself while stared down Adam, unsure of what to do.
Adam’s chest rose and fell in an uneven pattern. His hands shaking, he strained to tug on the handle.
Blake realized he was trying to pull the knife from his chest and moved quickly, grasping Adam’s hand, stopping his weak attempt at removing the blade. “Be still and don’t pull it out. It will shred your heart and you’ll bleed to death.” His mind sought Adam’s, this time he was able to connect.
We will get you through this. Just stay calm.
Blake felt far from calm himself. His anger gave way to anguish. The thought of losing Adam like this caused a lump to form in his throat. He had to figure out a way to help. From the sounds of his shallow breathing he knew Adam didn’t have long. For the third time in less than six months Adam was on the brink of death.
The feeling of panic started to set in. His entire body began to shake. Taking a deep breath, he stood and paced trying to get himself under control if he lost it, he would be no good to Adam. Think Blake! His hand swiped across his face to find moisture there. He didn’t realize a tear had slipped down his cheek and wanted to laugh at the thought of Adam making fun of him for crying like a little girl.
Hell, Adam was his best friend, how else was he supposed to feel? He couldn’t let anything happen to him and had to find a way to fix this, but he had no idea how!
Then he heard a slight rustling noise and whipped his head in the direction. In the commotion, he had completely forgotten about the pink eyed pale girl. His fist doubled at the thought of Adam’s stupid response in saving her. His anger returned, resentment towards the girl was strong and he had to remind himself that Adam was being Adam and reacted without thinking. It was not her fault. With it being the full moon phase his wolf was pushing to be released again and he fought to calm his emotions.
He kept his mind connected with Adams to keep him calm while he sent his senses out into the forest. He controlled his anger and frustration. The girl might be able to help if she was from around the area, she could go for help. Blake controlled the tone of his voice, keeping it soft, hoping to draw her out of her hiding place. “It’s okay, you can come out. Nobody’s going to hurt you now. The bad guys are dead.”
When she dropped from the tree he was taken by surprise. It was a good twenty foot drop and she landed without a sound and stood with her hand on the tree. This was no little girl. She was not human going by the white skin and pink eyes, but she had the figure of a very small full grown woman and she was naked.
