Ava is third generation of The Broken kind who reside on a planet called Poseidon. The Broken share this planet with an ancient race known as the Minoans. The Broken are a breed of humans who evolved from a program that was constructed to save human kind from harsh conditions back on Earth. But Ava knows much more, and feels much more than she is allowed to. When she starts questioning her origins and the destruction of Earth, things go horribly wrong for her. She is saved by a Minoan boy from an attempted kidnapping on her life – the perpetrators are evil Zulus and their dark ancient magic. Humans and Minoans are forbidden to interact with each other, and as she is taken back to their village she finds out why – they know of her, her kind and her destiny to save a dying race. Ava must rid them from the Council’s ruling and free the galaxy of The Shadow. Her destiny is to rise above the fall, because within her soul is the key to an archaic weapon that has been missing in the mix of a genetic code since the time of the ancients. As the prophecy unfolds she learns of her bloodline – a bloodline that makes her less human than she could ever have imagined. She alone has the power to destroy or save, but the mind-shift is a horrible thing. Ava will become what she hates to save the ones she loves. Beaten, poisoned, possessed and betrayed by her own emotions, she has no choice but to rise above it all… for that is her Destiny.

Where did the inspiration for this story come from?

What is the story behind the story so to speak? The inspirations came from a very emotional place. It was a time of healing for me and writing the book was how it happened. I wanted others to relate and feel that no matter how dark, lonely and broken things seem at times, that you are the light that pulls you out of those difficult times.

Tell us about the book cover.

I needed a girl on the cover, she had to be hauntingly beautiful, strong and vulnerable at the same time. Blonde hair, and gray eyes. I don’t think we did too badly? I searched very long hours for that model. Her yes have lightning in them because she hold a storm within her at all times, a storm that is on the edge of releasing at any given moment. The forest is haunting and tempting. Just how I envisioned Planet Poseidon. The purple planet at the back, is Poseidon – the purple planet. Within the planet you will see the similar forest echoing through. This planet has many forests.

How does it represent your book?  How did you choose the artwork?

Well the story is about a girl who becomes her own savior, one that rises above a fall that she had created. I think she represents the character well enough. The artwork was chosen through the publisher’s site. I probably searched for two entire days until I stumbled upon her profile.  The forests I had on my laptop since I started writing the book. It was my inspiration around the Planet I had created.

WOW Carlyle Labuschagne blew my mind away with this fantastic read. Our journey is with Ava a heroine who knew she was different but never realized she was destined to do great things. Ava faces difficulties that even we do some on a daily basis. I could not help but to love Ava's character. Her character grew so much throughout the whole story.I will admit I was sadden when I heard that some people had trouble connecting with Ava. I can not see how someone could not connect with her character it was more like she was a real person and not a fictional one. She acted like most girls her age and her character continued to grow and develop throughout the whole book. Ava thought she was no body special she did not have abilities but was that all about to change ........ Sorry No Spoilers Here. But I Highly Recommend That You Go And Get Your Self A Copy Of This Fantastic Read.

I loved exploring the worlds that Carlyle created for us her writing is smooth and flowing. Her description is amazing I love it when an author uses so much description that you can feel and see the emotions and worlds that they have created for us to explore. I can not wait for book two in this series.
