I would love to welcome Carrie Vaughn to the blog today. This is another fan girl squee moment.
Carrie can you please tell us a little bit about yourself?

Thanks for inviting me.  I grew up all over the country as an Air Force brat, but I've lived in Colorado for the last fifteen or so years, so I've managed to put down roots.  I've been writing most of my life, writing full time for the last five or six years.

When did you first start writing and when did you finish your first book?

I wrote a short story for a school assignment when I was eight.  I haven't really slowed down since.  I wrote my first book in about 1996, but that one didn't get published.  My fourth book, which I wrote in 2003, was Kitty and The Midnight Hour, and that was the first to be published.

Can you tell us about your upcoming books and/or books?

I'm writing more books in the Kitty series -- Kitty Rocks the House will be out in spring 2013. I'm also working on a book featuring Cormac as a main character, and a sequel to my superhero novel, After the Golden Age.  It seems like I always have about five or six projects going at once.

Did you have a playlist while writing the kitty Norville Series as many authors do? If so did the playlist vary greatly for each book or within the same music genre?

There's a playlist printed in the front of each novel, and those are the songs that struck me as fitting that book as I was writing it, so they develop pretty organically.  They're all across the board, rock and blues and classical and so on.

Have you ever written a character that resembles your personality or the personality of someone close to you?

Not really.  The characters are tied to the story -- they're the way they are because of the story.  So I don't really draw from people I know.  I might start thinking, "What would I do in this situation?" but the characters diverge from reality pretty quickly.

What do you do in your free time?

I collect hobbies.  I travel, do a lot of crafting and costuming.  Walk my dog, go to the movies.  Read books.

Who inspired you to write?

There's not any one person who inspired me.  I was a daydreaming kind of kid who loved stories and started telling my own.  Writers like Ray Bradbury and Robin McKinley probably influenced the kind of writer I am, and I learned a lot from them.  But I was already writing.

Who are your favorite book hero and/or heroine?

I just mentioned Robin McKinley -- I love The Blue Sword, and its heroine, Harry Crewe.
If you could ask yourself one interview question, what would it be and how would you answer it?
I'm afraid I don't know. . I get asked so many questions there isn't much that hasn't been asked.

Any parting words for aspiring writers or fans/readers?

If you want to write -- write a lot, read a lot, analyze what you read, make your writing better.
