Years of warfare and countless bedroom encounters have stolen Kempor Aleksander’s luster for life. He never expects to rediscover his zeal in the small, redheaded form of Ella the Troll, who fires his blood hotter than the deepest caverns in the forest.
But as trouble lingers in their midst—and edges ever closer—Alek and Ella spiral into troubled terrain. Turning to each other, the pair face down dangers that run impenetrably deep in their mythological world. But will the two lovers discover a passion that runs even deeper?
What Keeps a Series going in your mind? Did you know up front before the first book that it would be a series and did you map them out?
What keeps a series going?
The day I finished writing Remedy Maker, my award-winning fantasy romance, I instantly thought, “What’s next?”
Thanks to my outspoken readers (whom I love very much!), they shouted which character should get a spotlight in their own book. As any good author would, I listened and took notes.
Originally, I didn’t plan on writing a series. Of course, I didn’t plan on writing an epic fantasy either! But the story couldn’t end with Rhycious, it had to continue. And thus, a series was born.
What keeps a series alive is an underlying theme. In Star Wars, it was the rebels Luke Skywalker and Hans Solo fighting the evil empire and Darth Vader. In the Black Dagger Brotherhood series of JR Ward, it’s fighting lessers and the Omega through each character’s eyes.
A series is a sequence of books having certain characteristics in common that are formally identified together as a group. In essence; it’s the continued movement toward each book’s common goal.
Because I didn’t map out my books in a series format prior to writing, I’m enjoying the adventure right along with my readers. It felt natural for Aleksander to be in Book 2, Troll-y Yours, because he was Rhycious’s best friend appeared often in Remedy Maker.
Unbeknownst to anyone, I’ve kept tabs on which characters are mentioned the most who don’t have their own book yet. And yes, I’ve started Book 3 in The Centaurs series and am really excited about it. I hope you will be, too.
Always on the hunt for the uncommon things in life, award winning author Sheri Fredricks thrives on creating adventures in her mythological kingdom for her readers.
A former engineering secretary, Sheri lives on the beautiful central coast of California. "I wanted to move away from inflexible right angles and create an unboxed world with no boundaries." A voracious reader since her early years, Sheri found her brain crowded with stories and characters of her own. "Ultimately," she says, "my husband encouraged me to write them all down."
Sheri loves to spend time at home. A computer hutch keeps her focused on creating stories, but the panoramic view of life on a ranch will call her outside to play in the sun.
